John Lewis, the founder of The Bank of Fayetteville, died Friday in Branson, Missouri. The 67-year-old was a graduate of Fayetteville High School and the University of Arkansas.
Dick Trammel, longtime friend, met Lewis at the University of Arkansas.
”John and I enjoyed each other as college friends and I came back 15 years later to northwest Arkansas in 1975, and that friendship rekindled." Trammel said Lewis was a man who believed in helping others and serving his community.
"If it had anything to do with business or improvements of downtown Fayetteville John was involved. I still say that John Lewis was part of the father of keeping Fayetteville alive" Trammel said.
Lewis was also involved with The University of Arkansas. UA Chancellor John White released a statement regarding the passing of Lewis. "This is a tragic loss for the community of northwest Arkansas and the university. I share my deepest sympathies with his wife, Helen, and with all who knew and loved him."
