The Renaissance hotel project going in at the corner of Mountain and College Avenue in Fayetteville has seen its fair share of setbacks. Including changing the building from twelve stories to sixteen stories and finally to eighteen stories. Also, once initial ground work was completed the Mariott corporation had to inspect and then give the go-ahead to continue construction. Recently that go-ahead was given, and if you drive by the construction sight, its an easy conclusion to reach. Large machines now spend the days hammering away at bedrock, trying to move some of the solid stone to make room for the foundation. Developers say the bedrock is a mixed blessing; it makes for a solid foundation, but its also pretty time consuming to move. However, once the area is cleared the foundation can go in. After that, developers say it will only be about twenty months until the building is completed.
