breaking news
Early Wednesday morning, a womans body was found slumped over in the back seat of a Jeep Cherokee, which was halfway submerged in the Mulberry River, northwest of the town of Mulberry.
Around 8:00 a.m., Franklin County deputies received a 911 call from a man, saying his girlfriend had drowned. The man told authorities he and the woman tried to cross the river to get to his aunts house, but didnt make it across.
Neighbors we spoke to say they heard screaming down by the river. Deputies say the whole situation is suspicious, and theyve arrested the man who dialed 911, Christopher Brewer of Fort Smith, age 26. Brewer told officials he met the woman, Celesta McBride, 30, at a Fort Smith hotel early Wednesday morning.
Authorities say they didnt see any wounds on McBride, but her body has been sent to the state crime lab.
