The city of Fayetteville takes great pride in the amount of greenspace incorporated throughout the town, but now some residents are upset because some of their greenspace has been taken away. Workers from Southwestern Electric Power Company recently performed what they call routine line clearing on a stretch of Township that runs between Crossover and Old Wire Road. The problem some residents have with the clearing? Some trees were completely removed. A representative from SWEPCO says the company works very hard to maintain the greenspace concerns of the city of Fayetteville, but routine clearing is necessary to prevent power outages. The company also recommends that its customers never plant trees underneath power lines, saying small trees should be planted up to fifteen feet away from over head lines....medium trees should be planted thirty feet away and larger trees should go in about forty feet away.
