Gerald and Vicki Harp are in Oklahoma area hospitals tonight. Members of the Harp family tell us they both are in critical but stable condition.

The couple was traveling on I-44 Saturday afternoon when a dump truck crossed the median and hit their Toyota pickup.

According to state troopers, the driver of the dump truck lost control when his left front tire blew out.

Two other cars were involved in the accident.

Medics pronounced the driver of the dump truck dead at the scene.

Life Flight transported Gerald Harp to a Tulsa area hospital with head, arm and leg injuries.

Vicki Harp was taken to another area hospital with arm, leg and internal injuries.

A trooper at the scene said the couple had to be removed from their truck with the jaws of life.

Both in their sixties, the Harps are well known in Northwest Arkansas.

Gerald Harp's parents founded the Harps grocery chain. He and his brother are credited with helping make the Harps chain such a success, because of their involvement with the family business in the 60's.

He also served as president for 6 years, from 1994 to 2000.
