Hollywood party girl Paris Hilton says she wont appeal the judges decision to send her back to the slammer. So, hows she coping? John Larson finds out.
Paris Hiltons sister, Nicky, got her first chance to visit Paris in jail Sunday, and surely must have asked: was Paris really prepared to spend the next several weeks locked in jail? The county sheriff responsible for letting Hilton out early the first time says he wont do it again.
"Now that she is back in custody, we will continue to keep her there," says Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca. "The criminal justice system should not create a football out of Miss Hiltons status. We will keep her at the county jail until notified otherwise."
After doing everything she could to get out of serving out her 23-day sentence in jail, even having to be dragged from the courtroom screaming for her mother, Hiltons new statement sounds poised.
"I intend to serve my time at L.A. County Jail," she says. Hilton also says she is "learning and growing from this experience."
However, celebrity websites like Tmz.com report that, according to sources in the jail, Hilton was "teetering on the brink" of a breakdown, that she was "extremely withdrawn," "despondent" and a "train wreck" who didnt eat or sleep for the first 24 hours.
"It could be that Paris Hilton really does have some problems," says Harvey Levin, managing editor of Tmz.
But not too many, apparently, to keep her from taking a swipe at her press coverage. The multi-millionaire says she now hopes "the media will focus on more important things, like the men and women serving our country in Iraq." Fair enough, but Paris Hilton suddenly interested in international affairs? Come on.
