A Fort Smith man, arrested for failing to pay a fine, now faces a much more serious charge.
Fort Smith police arrested John Edward Miller, 45, late Thursday night or a misdemeanor charge of failure to pay fines, but officers say Miller also repeatedly raped a ten-year-old girl, who was a family friend. The girl told her mother about the abuse in a letter. The girl told police she always wore tight pants, so Miller would have a difficult time getting them unbuttoned.
After confiding in a friend, the girls mother took her to Sparks Regional Medical Center, thats when a nurse called police.
The girl says she feels safe now, but she hopes Miller will stay in jail
Miller will appear in court on June 18. Until then, he will remain in the Sebastian County Jail with no bond.
