People in Crawford County are cleaning up the mess and putting their lives back together after Wednesdays tornado. Some families are having to pick up everything they own and find a new home. Wednesday afternoon, a tornado swept through Pine Hollow Road. The American Red Cross Disaster Relief, along with some other agencies, were called in to assist residents. One family has to leave their home, but has nowhere else to go. Jessie Householder was at work when the tornado hit his home with his wife and two children inside. "I feel very lucky, very lucky. Two houses down from me are totally gone," Householder says. His wife and children were not hurt. Householders mother-in-law Elizabeth Dodson says almost all of the familys belongings were damaged. "[Theyre] trying to get everything out now, and see if they can salvage anything, and then try to find somewhere to stay," Dodson says. Nobody was hurt in the storm, but the American Red Cross Disaster Relief was called in to help residents, and were able to put victims in a hotel for three nights. Power in the area was knocked out during the tornado, but was restored late Wednesday night. Crews are still working to clean up all the power lines. Even though they started cleaning up Wednesday. residents say its going to take several months for the neighborhood to return to normal. If you would like to help out, call the Fort Smith chapter of the American Red Cross at (479) 782-1056.
