In August of 2006 the Wal-Mart corporation began supporting the gay and lesbian chamber of commerce. That chamber is an organization made up of more than 24,000 gay and lesbian owned businesses. Then in November a representative for the company announced that a new policy stated Wal-Mart would not make contributions to support or oppose highly controversial issues. Then, today this article appeared on cnnmoney.com. It appears to announce the exact same announcement Wal-Mart made back in November. Making readers scratch their heads as to why the article seemed to be reporting the news as if it was recent. We contacted a representative for Wal-Mart, and as it ends up, that representative was as confused as anyone else. In fact no one with the Wal-Mart organization could tell us why senior Fortune Magazine writer Marc Gunther would have published his article today. So we called Marc Gunther, who explained. The article is written about old news, but also says hes discovered it wasnt old news to wal-mart employees. Gunther claims that only in the last two weeks was the policy explained to wal-marts gay and lesbian employees. Upsetting many and therefore making old news new again.
