It’s been eight months since Rogers Mayor Steve Womack applied for federal training for local police to fight illegal immigration. Womack applied for the 287 (g) Program in November. The program would allow local police officer to receive federal training to handle immigration issues in the city.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Homeland Security suggested a regional immigration task force. Little is know about the task force, but it would take on the immigration problems regionally, not just in Rogers. Womack isnt sure what will come of his application to the 287 (g) Program and at this point he can only speculate why discussion of a task force has emerged. He’s still waiting to hear if the program will be approved in Rogers.
