For this group of amateur film-makers... time is of the essence. As participants in The 48 Hour Film Project, they have until 7:00 Sunday night to write, direct, shoot and edit their seven minute sci-fi piece. They received their assignment just over 24 hours ago... and are working around the clock. "It's been kind of a whirlwind, we're kind of on a rush," says producer Sheila Flynn. "By the time you're writing you're exhausted so you can't figure out how to get the energy and the creativity to direct, which is a very creative process. Then you gotta take the mess you've shot and try to creatively cut it together, so I have no idea what I'm going to be like in 12 hours," says Dan Streety, one of the film's directors. Andy Tyer, the other director, has participated in the competition twice before. He convinced his co-workers at Saatchi & Saatchi X to try their hand at movie making. "I have a passion for film-making, good film-making, it's not just picking up a camera and shooting it it's coming up with a really good story and finding people who can help you tell that story." The group chose a story line about a former geek who mysteriously transforms his past self into a much cooler character... With some sci-fi twists along the way. Bringing the story to life isn't easy, but group members say it's worth it. "In a couple of hours we're going to have something to show for all this and that's what's really going to be neat is being able to take this home and say look what I did," Tyer says.
