The Walker family is now one member short. They still have two dogs, but are now without their six-month old Jack Russell terrier-mix Gunner, who Kellie Walker describes as a sweet, playful puppy. Walker says as she picked up her mail Friday afternoon, the mail man said something that shocked her... "He said I just sprayed your dog, it's pepper spray is what he said. He showed me the little spray can and he said he was trying to teach him a lesson." Just ten minutes later, she says her neighbor showed up on her doorstep with some bad news -- Gunner was laying in the road. "Then we went down there, I shouldn't have let my son go down there I wasn't thinking. We went down there and couldn't find anything to put him in so I carried him to my neighbor's house. I had her look at him but he was already dead." Because post offices are closed Sunday, we couldn't get in touch with the postal worker... and don't know if he feared for his safety or was just being malicious. The Walkers believe after the mail man sprayed Gunner with pepper spray, he became disoriented and wandered into the road unable to see clearly. They say whoever hit him didn't even stop. "I never thought something could hurt this bad, it's like my kid or something." The Walkers filed a police report. Officers say if the city prosecutor thinks there's enough evidence the mail man could face an animal cruelty charge.
