John Brewers curbside message was heard Monday. Brewer wants the Mayor to dump the cities new trash contract. He wants to keep Bentonville’s current trash pickup plan. The plan allows patrons to discard as many bags of trash as they want for $10.70. Garbage men pick up the bags twice a week.
The new service will cost about a $1.20 more. Each household will get two 96 gallon trash cans with pick up service once a week. Brewer will protest every day this week. He said the mayor hasnt been up front about the change.
"I want him to go public and tell us why hes doing this. Why does he think we should have our streets lined with two 96 gallon barrels in front of every home and why didnt give us a choice,” said Brewer
City officials said citizens were given a choice. They said there were public meetings leading up to a vote by the city council to chance the service. They said the new service is meant to encourage recycling.
