Bella Vista Votes To Adopt Old Ordinance

By: Alex Flippin
Updated: July 23, 2007
Earlier today and since the beginning of July, theres been a problem in Bella Vista. No animal ordinances were in place to deal with nuisance pets. The reason, because no animal ordinances were adopted when the village became a city...and though you may not spend much time thinking about animal ordinances, theres plenty of good reasons behind them. For instance, without them, owners of vicious animals could not be cited. Authorities can pick up nuisance animals, but as far as someone answering for a violent animals behavior? Authorities had no authority. That fact came to the citys attention when a ticket written to the owner of a vicious dog had to be thrown out of court. Realizing this, the Bella Vista City Council acted quickly to re-adobt the animal ordinances they had inadvertently dropped just a few months earlier...But were told the city will work with the Bella Vista Animal Shelter to write up a new set of laws as soon as possible.
