Wednesday, Governor Mike Beebe along with other city, state, and U.S. officials were in Bentonville to announce plans for a regional water treatment center. By 2009 most of the areas sewage will be located on a 450 acre lot near the Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport. The move to a regional system will encourage continued growth and possibly help save money. The state has already given $4.3 million dollars to build the Northwest Arkansas Waste Water Plant, but the rest of the money will be from a number of sources. Bentonville city officials say the regional system will save taxpayers because they won’t be paying for update the city’s current station.
