The Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the Roland Police Department because an inmate at the City Jail says police officers engaged in inappropriate sexual activity with a former prisoner. The Roland City Jail inmate says she saw police officers engage in sexual misconduct with a former prisoner, but the prisoner in question says ‘that’s not true.’ Wednesday, an investigator from the Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Department interviewed employees, inmates, and citizens. The investigator, Roger Fuller, says, “This investigation is not preventing Roland police officers from performing their duties.” Some Roland residents say they’re not surprised because this isn’t the first time the police department has been under investigation. One resident says, "Every one of them down there that has a background of doing things they shouldnt do." Jack Turner, another resident, explains, "The police department is supposed to be there to protect you and it constantly seems like theyre under investigation and you wonder if youre being protected." Fuller would not say how many officers are involved or when the sexual misconduct occurred. He did say he plans to finish the investigation by the end of the week.
