Thursday committee members unanimously approved an ordinance on temporary signs and banners. After frustration and disagreement at the committee's initial meeting two weeks ago, the group decided to break the ordinance down and approve it in pieces. Committee member Jesse Core is hoping to eventually update the entire ordinance. "Our current ordinance is extremely old, this one will make us more competitive with neighboring cities." Core says a new ordinance would not only improve the city's looks, but result in economic gain as well. "Ultimately businesses want to invest in attractive communities, homeowners want to buy homes in attractive communities, more customers will spend money at local businesses if we invest in the appearance of our city...it's time that the leadership start making tough decisions if we want to see Springdale improve," he says. The temporary sign ordinance will be on the next city council agenda for final approval.
