
For thieves, truck tailgates offer a quick and easy way to make a buck. Chris Sargent, owner of Highway 62 Auto Salvage, says someone could grab your tailgate and be gone in sixty seconds. "It's very simple, very simple. In less than a minute you could have one, if you know what you're doing," he says. Police say tailgate thefts pop up every so often. Recently Rogers and Benton County have had reports of stolen tailgates. The part is easy to sell, since auto salvages don't have to run items through the Arkansas Crime Information Center like pawn shops do. Sargent says he doesn't purchase individual parts because it's difficult to know if it's stolen. He says a single tailgate can bring in hundreds of dollars.
