Bentonville police say around $20,000 is missing from the Sugar Creek PTO. Friday we tried to talk to teachers about the theft but many refused or ignored us altogether. However, one teacher tells us the PTO keeps track of it's money through a treasurer, but strangely enough, that treasurer has disappeared. "Usually, they keep track of that and if you need to know you can go to them and ask them, but this person moved," says teacher Peggy Stevens. Stevens says the school found out about the missing money after a big expense. "We had new playground equipment installed and we couldn't pay for it. The people who installed it were nice enough to say you can wait until you have your next fundraiser, so that was great." Another Sugar Creek teacher has set up a donation can in her business to help raise money for the playground equipment. We are told the PTO will likely restructure itself to prevent any future thefts. Neither investigators or school officials will provide any details on who the suspect is, but investigators say a significant paper trail was left behind and they could have an arrest warrant as early as Monday.
