Fairview elementary has different plans for its students this year. Its dividing some classes up by gender. The program will split up three fifth grade classes. One all girls, one all boys, then one will be a mix of genders. "We have been looking at the research and research and best practices is showing this is whats working. If this is what is showing the most success then we want to try it for our kids." said Principal Peggy Walter. Some parents say this is will be good for kids. "I think that it should of been like this in the first place. I would have loved it in school if it was all kids in one class and all boys in the other. I would have definitely liked it." But some think otherwise. "I think it would be better to mix the sexes, have both of them in the same class while theyre growing up. Theyll probably learn to get along better that way."says grandparent of Fairview student. The school will evaluate test scores and classroom performance then decide if this will benefit students. The school says if this program works it could be used in more classes and additional grades by next school year
