A City Director says he wants English to be Fort Smith’s official language.
Bill Maddox says English is already Arkansas’ official language. Now he wants an English-only resolution for the city of Fort Smith.
The resolution would force city officials to write all signs, agendas, applications, and anything else produced by the city in English only.
Maddox explains, "Anyone from outside of this country that does not speak English should learn English so that they can communicate and understand our culture and our ways of life."
Maddox says he hopes the resolution will pass next Tuesday.
