The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a massive recall on several popular toys, including 250-thousand SpongeBob SquarePants address books and journals...and more than 70-thousand Thomas & Friends and Curious George spinning tops and tin pails because of excessive levels of lead paint. Priddy "Trucks" Shaker Teether Books are being recalled because of a choking hazard. All are made in China. Greg Houser, owner of Butterflies and Frogs daycare and a parent himself, says the recalls have him very concerned. "It's a little worrisome that my child could be playing with a toy I've already purchased and she puts her mouth on it or is playing with it, or getting her hands all over it and I don't know it's unsafe until possibly it's too late." Houser says he tries to stay on top of recalled items, and prevent them from getting into a child's hands. "As a daycare provider we're privy to information like list servs, things like that. We get calls from DHS and they'll let us know what toys have been recalled." He says he's never come across a recalled toy in his daycare, but says it's difficult for parents to know what toys are safe. "Unfortunately, you would probably have to buy and then find out later. As in this case, toys come out and then you eventually see from a news list or something like that where a toy has been recalled" For a full list of recalled items and refund information go to
