The Army Corps of Engineers has a plan to get ride of beaded foam on lakes in the Little Rock District. The corps will release a deadline schedule for marina owners on its lakes to switch from beaded foam to encapsulated foam. The Prairie Creek Marina has already made the switch. Park rangers said the beaded foam breaks apart and litters the lake. They also claim the foam can soak up oil and gas in the water, causing a potential hazard to swimmers. Early estimates show a deadline of 2017, but the corps will release a new deadline in December and marina owners could have even more time.
