Campus Police found the meth lab in a University of Arkansas Fort Smith apartment building.
Tuesday, police found a meth lab here in this one bedroom apartment at the Sebastian Commons Apartments, which is home to hundreds of U of A Fort Smith Students. They say a manager told them about the lab.
Campus Police Chief, Kevin Thiele, explains, "Staff members were out at the dumpster discarding some stuff. They discovered what they believed to be paraphernalia items, and they immediately alerted management and our officers."
Two women and one man lived in the room. Police haven’t arrested anyone, but they interviewed the girls and are still looking for the man. We spoke to other students who live in the building. They say they’re shocked to hear about a meth lab on campus.
One student, Debbie Powers, says, "Its sad. I mean youre going here to get an education, and then there are people that are sinking that low to have to make drugs."
Another student, Jessica Carmona, explains, "Its kind of surprising. I mean people, when they come here, they know that thats not going to be allowed and there are consequences for it. I mean I guess theyre just not thinking, or they just dont care."
Anywhere meth is cooked becomes a toxic area. Police say they have evacuated this campus room. They say the surrounding rooms are OK to live in, but they plan to test them to be on the safe side.
