Two men hired to deliver a subpoena to Bev Saunders, who works in The Gentry City Hall building, were wearing FBI jackets. During their first visit, October 22nd, they never told anyone in the building who they were working for. When they didnt find Saunders, they left.
Saunders is the manager for Poultry Partners, an organization of farmers in our area. A lawyer for the Oklahoma Attorney Generals office issued the subpoena for information about the organization. Information they want to use in a federal lawsuit against poultry farmers in Arkansas they say are polluting Oklahoma water.
One of the men was Tulsa Police Major Rod Hummel. Hummel was hired to issue the subpoena and wasnt on the clock with Tulsa police at the time. He also wasnt with the FBI. Saunders and her attorney identified the major and contacted the Attorney Generals Office.
Charlie Price, a spokesman for the Attorney General’s Office, said theyve ask Hummel to stop wearing the jacket, but that in no way was the major trying to pose as an FBI agent.
"The poultry companies want to talk about anything but the fact that their waste management practices are polluting the river," said Price.
"There’s an awful lot of arrogance going on here,” said Saunders. “I think maybe it’s a little bit of intimidation or bullying tactic toward people who have opposed the lawsuit in Oklahoma.”
