Deputy Coordinator, Tonya Roberts, says having an emergency kit in your home and your car is the first step to prepare for winter storms.
"They have to make sure they have ways to open that food, to heat that food, to possibly heat their home, light their home for extended periods of time. Two weeks is a long time without power but, in a major ice storm or winter disaster that maybe what happens." said Tonya Roberts.
Roberts also says beware of waiting till the weather is already bad to get everything you need.
"The time to do that is now. While you are doing your holiday shopping for thanksgiving take a few moments grab a few extra supplies and get your family prepared." said Tonya Roberts.
