A bill to make America more energy efficient passed through the House earlier this week, but not with the help of Arkansas Congressman John Boozman. Boozman opposed the bill. He said it unfairly targets Southern States.
The Energy Independence and Security Act calls for energy providers to get 15 percent of their power from renewable resources. If the legislation passes, companies supplying Arkansas with power would have to spend millions to generate energy from resources like wind, water and the sun. The cost would be passed to the consumer. Boozman estimates the cost at 500 million dollars for Arkansas families. The Senate will take another look at the bill before voting on it.
