Kelly was born and raised in Orange County, California. She attended college at the University of Maryland, College Park, earning a B.A. in Communication. Her senior year she interned at the Office of the Secretary of Defense, Press Desk at the Pentagon. It was there, working with the Pentagon press corps, that she learned her love of story telling and journalism.
Upon graduation, Kelly commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. She moved to Arkansas in 2005 where she served as the Chief of Media, Public Affairs Officer (PAO), for Little Rock Air Force Base. She is currently is a Captain in the Reserves.
She has embedded Arkansas reporters in Iraq and ran the international press center at Little Rock Air Force base during Hurricane Katrina. She has covered new weapons systems testing in Yuma, Az., and trained senior leaders at the media communication course, Scott Air Force, St. Louis, Mo. Kelly received numerous awards for her military journalism and is a recipient of the the Air Force Commendation medal.
Kelly won the title of Miss Arkansas USA in 2007 and has spoken to groups around the state, and has been involved in a large array of charity events.
Kelly loves her times reporting, especially in severe weather! She also says working with Tom and Jason in the mornings make the 2 a.m. wake-up calls worth it!
In her free time she loves to run, cook, and play with her two dogs, Cork and Bailey.
