Cleaning up Acidic Water

By: Carley Gordon
Updated: May 23, 2008
EPA officials are still cleaning up after Thursday’s fire. An old, abandoned building caught fire early Thursday morning. It had dangerous chemicals inside. Friday, the EPA worked to remove acidic water from the area. They had to close off a large section of Albert Pike. They didn’t have to evacuate homes, but they are asking nearby residents to avoid touching any puddles. After they remove the water from the outside, they’ll move indoors. Eventually, they’ll remove the entire structure. Officials say, the whole process could take a week.
