Bobby Petrino: "There is a lot of competition."
Dennis Johnson: "Everybody impressed me. The whole running back core impressed me today. We said we were gonna make big plays at the running back position and we did."
Three different Hog running backs found the endzone Saturday, including a 55-yard scramble from starter Mike Smith.
Mike Smith: "It's exciting to see so many different people score. That shows you how dynamic the offense is and what this offense can be if we bring it all together."
In the battle for his backup, the most carries went to freshman Ronnie Wingo: 19 rushes for 56 yards.
Petrino: "Ronnie Wingo's very talented. He can really run with the ball, he can make guys miss. I've liked what I've seen a lot from him this past week. He's really grown up. He's got somehting special about him."
But sophomore Dennis Johnson made the most of his touches, collecting 64 yards on just nine carries, plus a touchdown.
Johnson: "You have to go in and perform. You have a lot of running backs in front of you right now that's running the ball good so you have to go in and perform every chance you get."
Petrino: "Right now he's the guy that's making the big runs."
De'Anthony Curtis, Knile Davis, and Broderick Green also figure to be in the mix, so while we may have a better idea... It's still too soon to declare a depth chart.
Johnson: "It's a rotation so I don't feel nobody has the number two spot right now. It's a rotation that we're in."
