With another school year around the corner and an increase in construction activity along Arkansas interstates, the Arkansas Highway and Transportation department is issuing reminders to residents that new cell phone laws are now in place.

Director Scott Bennett says that Act 37 of 2011 makes it illegle to use hand held cell phones when traveling through school zones and highway work zones.

Bennett adds that the laws are now in full force for the saftey of school students and construction workers. Not only do most classes begin around August 20th across the area, but over 400 miles of Arkansas interstates are scheduled to begin in early November as a part of the new rehabilitation program.
