The clock is ticking for Christmas shoppers.

And another deadline fast approaching? A Fiscal Cliff resolve that could soon put a dent in people's paychecks.

Put the two together and the inability for shoppers to purchase that dream gift could turn into a nightmare for merchants.

"Sure it's entered my mind, it's entered everyone's mind," says Stevette Mays, owner of Stevette's Fine Fashions in Rogers.

"I think it does strike a little fear," adds Sarah Brown, owner of Fleur di Lis Upscale Resale Boutique, also in Rogers.

But despite Fiscal Cliff threats, local business owners say holiday shopping is still going strong, and sales are still ringing in.

"It's actually been a lot better than maybe the last two years," Mays says.

Shoppers are still spending in downtown.

"They're wanting to make it a great, great holiday for their families, "Mays says. " That's what i'm hearing. They want that perfect gift for every member of their family."

A gift-giving state of mind that forcesFfiscal Cliff fears to be ignored.

"Yes, there is a focus on money, but I don't think it's as much a focus as there is on the reason for the season." Mays adds.

Some stores are even keeping its doors open late during the holiday season.

Sarah Brown owns an upscale resale shop on Walnut, she says organized efforts and events help business owners brainstorm ways to keep people buying.

"I think people are trying to shop and not worry about it right now," Brown says.

Even during potential tough times.

"You always want to worry about it, and have it in your head, but it's not something that can consume your business."
