"For me it's so much more than a voice," says Urban. "Its not just the voice its communicating. The voice is used for that, but if the communication of that is so strong and clear I'm not even paying attention to whether its in tune."
When it comes to weeding out talent, Urban says the bickering beauties can be pretty persuasive.
"It's totally turns into the debate club. I've watched Nicki debate she's very good at it," says Urban. "She's really good cause she'll say what about this one or that. At a certain point you're kind of saying 'ok, that's a good point. All right, i'm going to change my question mark to a yes or my no, i might change that to a yes.'"
At 45, the New Zealand born country crooner has 9 platinum albums, 14 number one country singles and is known for playing a mean guitar. And with a litany of awards, he and the other superstar judges are lending their talent to these budding singers.
"There's four completely different musical people giving our thoughts and opinions on each of these artists."
