The US Senate is moving to provide more money for the meat industry.

Arkansas Senator Mark Pryor has proposed a $55 million boost to keep meat and poultry inspectors on the job.

The goal is to prevent closures of meat-packing plants across the country , that would be forced to shut down by automatic spending cuts.

The Senate unanimously voted in favor of the measure.

Now, it goes the House where Representatives are also expected to approve it.

After that, it would go to the President for his signature.
