Chief Meteorologist, Dan Skoff, and GE Lighting's Steve Cunningham, awarded Mrs. Sara Alderson's 3rd grade students at Happy Hallow Elementary with a $500 Walmart gift card as a Brightest Classroom for the month of October.

Mrs. Alderson will use the money to purchase new eco-friendly furniture for her class to exemplify eco-friendly living. She found chairs made from eucalyptus wood certified by Forest stewardship council who promotes responsible management of forests and logging, and also found a bamboo rug made from a sustainable organic resource. In addition, Mrs. Alderson will purchase lighting for the classroom that uses CFL bulbs to promote energy star products for saving energy. This is a great way to make the class feel more comfortable and therefore provide the students with a welcoming, learning environment. At the same time, she will be showing the students, through the purchase of these Eco friendly and sustainable resources that there are manufacturers making items that do help the environment and pro-longing the use of our natural resources. This would incorporate into a great research project for the kids....where did our furniture come from? How did the company use Eco friendly resources? How do they promote sustainable living?
