FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Arkansas left-handed pitcher Colin Poch was named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week, as announced on Monday afternoon by the league office.

The weekly honor is the first for an Arkansas baseball player this season. Poch becomes the first Razorback to be named SEC Freshman of the Week since Barrett Astin earned the honor on May 23, 2011.

A native of Flower Mound, Texas, Poch pitched in two games on the week and had a 1-0 record with a 0.00 ERA and seven strikeouts in 7.1 innings of work.

Poch made his collegiate debut in game one of Arkansas' doubleheader vs. New Orleans last Tuesday. The freshman lefty tossed five shutout innings, only allowing one hit and striking out six to earn the win. Poch did not allow a hit until two outs in the fifth in his start vs. the Privateers.

Poch pitched out of the bullpen in the series finale vs. Evansville on Sunday. Poch struck out one and only allowed one hit in 2.1 scoreless innings. Poch entered in the fifth inning vs. the Purple Aces with the tying run on base and induced a soft line out to second to end the inning and keep the Razorbacks in front. Poch went on to throw two more scoreless innings and helped Arkansas complete a three-game sweep.

Poch and the rest of the Arkansas baseball team returns to action this weekend at the Coca-Cola Classic in Surprise, Ariz. The Razorbacks will face No. 25 Arizona State on Thursday and Saturday, Gonzaga on Friday and Pacific on Sunday.
