Les Misrables Coming to Rogers Little Theater for Season 28

For 28 years the Rogers Little Theater has provided entertainment in the historic downtown district. And coming soon will be one of the most entertaining shows in all of theater.

Rogers Little Theater announces Season 28, featuring acclaimed musicals Les Misrables and The Wizard of Oz, the popular film adaptation of Wait Until Dark and the stage adaptation of Xanadu.
"If theater seasons were sports, RLT's Season 28 would be the World Series, Super Bowl, March Madness, The Masters and The US Open all rolled into one!" commented Director of Productions Ed McClure.

Bernard is planning a romantic weekend with his chic Parisian mistress in his charming converted French farmhouse, whilst his wife, Jacqueline, is away. He has arranged for a Cordon Bleu cook to prepare gourmet delights, and has invited his best friend, Robert, along to provide the alibi. It's foolproof; what could possibly go wrong? An evening of hilarious confusion ensues as Bernard and Robert improvise at breakneck speed.

This devastatingly funny play follows a day in the life of Sam Peliczowski, an out-of-work actor who mans the red-hot reservation line at Manhattan's number-one restaurant. Coercion, threats, bribes, histrionics-a cast of desperate callers will stop at nothing in their zeal to land a prime reservation, or the right table. Amid the barrage, Sam's got his own needs to contend with-his recently widowed dad wants him home for Christmas, and he's up for a choice part at Lincoln Center. While juggling scheming socialites, namedropping wannabes, fickle celebrities and egomaniacal bosses, can he manage to look out for himself? Fully Committed, listed in Time Magazine's "Top Ten Plays of 2000," has forty wildly diverse characters played by a single versatile performer.

This international smash-hit may be the most popular musical in the world. In 19th century France, Jean Valjean is released from 19 years of unjust imprisonment, but finds nothing in store for him but mistrust and mistreatment. He breaks his parole in hopes of starting a new life, initiating a life-long struggle for redemption as he is relentlessly pursued by police inspector Javert, who refuses to believe Valjean can change his ways.

Sheridan Whiteside, having dined at the home of the Stanleys, slips on their doorstep, breaking his hip. A tumultuous six weeks of confinement follow. The arrival of strange gifts from his friends further destroys domestic tranquility.

The 1986 film adaptation was directed by Bruce Beresford and garnered three Academy Award nominations, including one for Henley for Best Adapted Screenplay. Set in Hazlehurst, Mississippi, the three Magrath sisters have gathered during their grandfather's final hours in the local hospital. Lenny, the oldest sister, is unmarried at thirty and facing diminishing marital prospects; Meg, the middle sister, who quickly outgrew Hazlehurst, is back after a failed singing career on the West Coast; while Babe, the youngest, is out on bail after having shot her husband in the stomach. Their troubles, grave and yet, somehow, hilarious, are highlighted by their priggish cousin, Chick, and by the awkward young lawyer who tries to keep Babe out of jail while helpless not to fall in love with her. In the end the play is the story of how its young characters escape the past to seize the future-but the telling is so true and touching and consistently hilarious that it will linger in the mind long after the curtain has descended.

A sinister con man, Roat, and two ex-convicts, Mike and Carlino, are about to meet their match in Susy Hendrix, a blind Greenwich Village housewife. She becomes the target of three con-men searching for the heroin hidden in a doll, which her husband Sam innocently transported from Canada as a favor to a woman who has since been murdered. Susy knows the only way to play fair is by her rules, so when darkness falls she turns off all the lights leaving both of them to maneuver in the dark until the game ends. The 1967 film adaptation starring Audrey Hepburn and Alan Arkin, ranked tenth on Bravo's 100 Scariest Movie Moments for its climactic scene.

Xanadu, based on the 1980 film starring Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelly, never loses site of the failures of the movie and derives its humor from many of its clumsy moments. The stage production retains the flavor which made the movie a cult classic. This hilarious, roller skating, musical adventure about following your dreams despite the limitations others set for you, rolls along to the original hit score composed by pop-rock legends Jeff Lynne and John Farrar, and includes, "Magic," "All Over The World." "Suddenly," "I'm Alive," "Evil Woman." "Have You Never Been Mellow" and "Xanadu," to name a few.
Now in its 27th year, RLT produces a wide variety of plays, musicals and special events at the historic Victory Theater in downtown Rogers. With a subscription base of more than 450 members and funding support from some of the area's most prominent businesses, foundations and community groups, RLT is a vibrant part of the region. Over 20,000 audience members attended RLT productions in the past two seasons, and the theater relies on more than 700 volunteers
