Road to Close as 90-Year-Old Bridge Gets Replaced
Updated: January 11, 2013
The Washington County Road Department is replacing the Harvey Dowell Bridge, also known as Molly Wagdon Bridge. On January 22nd, crews will close County Road 195 (Harvey Dowell Road) to all thru traffic. Local landowners will still be able to access their property.
The Harvey Dowell Bridge was built in the 1920s but cannot support the weight of vehicles as large as a firetruck. The new bridge will be two lanes with a higher weight rating, allowing emergency responders better access and quicker response.
The project is expected to take the majority of the year.
