March madness is officially underway and Fayetteville sports bars are filled with fans taking in all the action.

Plenty of people were on Dickson this afternoon for the start of the tournament and while some of them were playing hookey others planned ahead.

"I usually strategically take my vacation around March Madness," says Michael Pafford.

Pafford is in town to visit his wife's family, but he wasn't about to miss out on Thursday's first tip-off.

"The upsets, the game after game, you know, you never have a break in the action," Pafford says. "I'm a huge basketball fan anyway, so this is the perfect time of year."

Pafford fills out a bracket every year, but because of all those upsets he says picking the winners is just like playing the lottery.
