A church in Indiana has an attention grabbing new lawn display.  1,000 crosses that can't help but catch the eye - though the Jasonville church says there's a greater meaning behind them.

On January 22, 1973, the U.S. Supreme Court legalized abortion in the landmark Roe v. Wade case.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the decision, and The Blessed Hope Baptist church is using this as a time to reflect - taking their message to the streets...literally.

"The abortion issue is an out of sight, out of mind issue. You know it's happening everyday but there's literally no visual reminders. There's nothing that causes us in 365 days to pause and say this is happening," said Pastor Jerry Ross, senior pastor at the church.

In the 40 years since the Roe v. Wade decision, it's estimated that 60 million abortions have been performed and for the church, each one of the white crosses represents 60,000 ended-pregnancies.

1,000 crosses, placed by about 80 volunteers on New Year's Day, will remain at the Blessed Hope Church all month long.

The church raised $1,100 for the project in just two days. With the extra funds, they've purchased a permanent abortion awareness sign that will go up next month.
