A national airline merger might mean growth for Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport.
According to XNA Director Kelly Johnson, American Airlines and US Airways are in the process of merging. As of now, she said airport officials do not think the partnership will mean an increase in cost for the customer or a loss of flights.
In fact, the merger will most likely mean additional direct flights out of Northwest Arkansas.
"Certainly any time we can add a destination we hope to pick up more traffic, so hopefully the merger will work out well for both parties and we'll see some increased service."
Johnson said the merger still has to move through the U.S. Department of Justice, and will probably take about a year before it is approved.
