"We had an unpredictable morning, we thought we had made the right decision and we were surprised."
Mary Ley with Bentonville Schools said on Tuesday the decision to open or close school is carefully planned.
"Our policy is to have a decision by 5:45 and by 5:45 it just didn't look like there was going to be an issue at all. The issue didn't happen until well into the transportation process and then it happened quick," said Ley.
Ley says that the decision to keep schools opened or closed is one that is not taken lightly. She says it's also a personal one.
"I have a son that goes to school and it worries me. The people that make the decision, they also have children and are sensitive to safety. They're affected by this, too," says Ley.
So, what will the Bentonville School District do next time winter weather hits? Ley said they just hope to take it "day by day and try to make the right decision."
