A shackled Susan Fleck arrives at the Benton County Jail Monday morning.

"Detectives have spoken to her, but at this point she has not been overly cooperative," says Benton County Sheriff Kelley Cradduck.

She is accused of killing her husband, 34-year-old Evan Fleck.

He was found dead in his Gentry home Sunday with a gunshot wound to the head.
"We do have a suspected motive, and that's something that the detectives and the criminal investigation division are following up on," Cradduck says.

It all happened just before dawn at a residence just off Highway 12 with four kids nearby, ages 7-15.

"Yes, the children were home, we heard some conflicting stories about where exactly they were located in the home, but there were children that were present at the home during the time of the shooting," Cradduck says.

"The children were in DHS custody, now I believe they are with family members and have been released out of DHS custody."

Cradduck says Susan Fleck called to report the shooting then fled to Oklahoma, leaving the kids behind.

Shortly after the investigation began, Susan was picked up in Delaware County where she was held before being extradited to Benton County on Monday.

Cradduck says a handgun, which is believed to be the murder weapon, was recovered from the scene.

As the motive for this alleged murder seems to be the question on everyone's mind.

"We had discussed that as a staff with the criminal investigation division about the motive, that is something that is still ongoing that we're still looking into," Cradduck says.

According to records at the Benton County Circuit Clerk's office, Evan Fleck had filed for divorce from his wife, Susan, back on Feb. 19.

Those records list Evan R. Fleck as a plaintiff, and Susan M. Fleck as a defendant.
