KNWA and Your Family:
Healthiest Counties:
Good news for you and your family. For the fourth year in a row, a nation-wide health study ranks Benton and Washington Counties as the healthiest in the Natural State. That's according to the fourth annual county health rankings released this week. The study ranks the overhall health of almost every county in the country based on factors like premature death rates, healthy food access along with things like unemployment and graduation rates. Loy Bailey of the Benton County Health Department says, "I think the government in many of the cities are taking some positive steps wth the trails more walking access so those are some positives as well."
On the other end of the spectrum, Ouachita County is listed as the least healthy in the state. You can read more about this study here.
Autism Rates:
And in other health news affecting your family, the number of children with autism appears to be significantly higher than previously thought. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released a study Wednesday saying one in 50 school-aged children have autism. Just last year, research suggested one in 88 children have an autism spectrum disorder. Not everyone agrees with the new assessment. The most recent findings were the result of a survey and based on parent reporting. The earlier study was based on medical and educational records and reviews.
