Bill Halter Announces Intention to Run for Governor

Updated: January 25, 2013
With Friday's news that Dustin McDaniel has dropped out of the race for governor, Bill Halter has announced his intention to run.

An e-mail received by our partners at Arkansas Times, reveals the former lieutenant plans to file paperwork to establish a campaign committee next week.

The message, which came from Halter's political operative Bud Jackson, says a formal announcement will be declared at a later date.

"Over the holidays my family and I talked about the demands a campaign for governor would place on us," said Halter in the e-mail. "We decided as a family that we are up for the challenge. That's why next week I will take the first necessary step towards running for governor in 2014."

"During my campaign for governor I will put forward my plans and ideas to move Arkansas towards an even brighter future."
