Sleep deprived, overwhelmed and of course nervous, contestants who survived day one of Hollywood week went solo with the house band for day two.

"I've seen a couple of guys that I remember really specifically from the audition and I'm you know maybe its an expectation level too," says judge Keith Urban.  "That's always a challenge you know?"

"We have some amazing people in this group," says judge Nicki Minaj.  "So narrowing it down to be a top 20 is probably going to be the hardest thing we've ever done."

"We now have to focus on the talent," says Randy Jackson.  "Who really has it and who we think can stand to the test to time and  walk the distance."

Simon Cowell used to say if you forget the words, you are finished, but this group is a bit more lenient.

"I'm trying to figure out where we cut slack for people and take things into account," says Urban.  "Because if you're forgetting words it doesn't make you less of an artist, it really doesn't."

"I try to encourage everybody," says judge Mariah Carey.  "And if they did forget the lyrics just do an adlib, do a rift, do something different.  You've got a whole group behind you, you know what I mean?  That's how I look at it."
